A Harsh Reality

Yesterday, one of my coworkers got let go. No warning. No sit-down. Just a call. After 15 years.

It hit me harder than I expected. Not just because I liked the guy, but because it reminded me:

Even a “safe” job can vanish overnight.

The lie so many of us are sold is that working a steady 9–5 is the secure route. That if you just put in the time, show up, and stay in your lane, you’ll be taken care of.

But that’s not how it works anymore.

This isn’t about fear-mongering. It’s about clarity.
I realized about a year ago:
If I want stability, I need to build it myself.

Not overnight. Not by quitting everything.
But by:

  1. Creating things I own

  2. Building an audience who trusts me

  3. Developing skills that solve real problems

  4. Diversifying how I make money — even if it starts small

(Not in any particular order, but generally I think creating comes first.)

So that if the rug does get pulled out from under me, I have something to stand on.

If you’re feeling stuck in a job you don’t love…
If you’ve been thinking about finally starting that side project, offering that service, sharing that work…
Let this be your sign.

The system isn’t going to save you.
But you can save yourself. One small step at a time.

P.S. I’m mapping out some ideas to start offering Instagram/content management for creatives and small businesses. If that’s something you’re curious about, reply to this email or DM me — I’d love to chat.
